SETpoint Self-Defense Workshop for Female Identifying and Gender-Non-Conforming Individuals

Tuesday, April 18, 2023 • 5:30PM – 8:30PM

Location: PAAR Southside Office, 81 S 19th Street, Pittsburgh PA 15203

In celebration of SAAM, PAAR is partnering with SETpoint to offer survivor-focused and trauma-informed Empowerment-Based Self Defense coaching, with a core foundation to Believe in Our Strengths and Defend What We Value. This workshop is specifically for individuals that identify as female or gender-non-conforming.

In this Empowerment Self-Defense session, we’ll discuss and practice some very simple and practical self-defense tools. Participants will focus on boundary setting, as well as learn the ways that their bodies are engineered to be strong. We’ll practice using our strengths in ways that will maximize effectiveness, building confidence in our ability to defend ourselves. We will discuss common objects that can be used as supplemental self-defense tools.

Instructors for this workshop will be:

  • Lisa Nakamura, Sr. Master and 7th Degree Black Belt in Shaolin Kung Fu, certified Empowerment Self Defense instructor, and trained Sexual Assault Counselor.
  • Dr. Michele Montag, 4th Degree Black Belt in Shaolin Kung Fu, certified Empowerment Self Defense instructor, and trained Sexual Assault Counselor.

More information about SETpoint can be found here SETpoint (set-point.org).

Ages 18 and up and female-identifying or gender-non-conforming welcome. This event is limited to 20 participants
