As one of the oldest rape crisis centers in the nation, PAAR is often on the cutting edge of new techniques and information. Locally, PAAR has done trainings for police officers, teachers, medical professionals, therapists, counselors and other service providers. PAAR teaches professionals how to effectively respond to the needs of assault victims.

PAAR offers both on-site and in-house trainings for professionals in the areas of:

Participants will gain a broader understanding of sexual abuse and the many ways that it affects survivors. They will enhance their scope of therapeutic approaches and learn valuable skill-building techniques to teach their clients.

 PAAR offers training at its facility. Full-day training may include Continuing Education Credits for Licensed Social Workers, Certified Counselors and Certified Addiction Counselors. For convenience, you can schedule a training at your facility.

The following is a schedule for professional trainings at PAAR. Student and victim service agencies are eligible for discounts. CEU’s also available. “Making Joyful Sounds: Drumming & Chanting”
Presenter: Kevin Henry, MEd, LSW
September 16, 2005, 9AM – 4PM
$70 if paid by September 9, $75 after

Fatigue and chronic stress are occupational risks for health care and mental health professionals. Fortunately there is a cost efficient and proven therapy to help relieve stress. Group recreational music-making requires no special skills or musicality. The "beginner's mind" in fact serves one well here.

Participants will receive instruction in basic percussion instruments and engage in "monster jam sessions" in which each member contributes to the rhythm. We will also experiment with the most ancient of instruments - the human voice. Along the way, we will explore scientific evidence attesting to the health benefits.

“Self-Inflicted Violence”

Tthis training will explore the meaning and purpose of self-injury, a commonly misunderstood practice. Etiology, diagnostic implications and treatment strategies will be explored.

“Adolescent Suicide Prevention”
Presenter: John Amato, MEd
November 11, 2005, 9AM – 4PM
$70 if paid by November 4, $75 after

The rate of adolescent suicide has risen at a steady pace over the past five years. Meanwhile, in the face of such tragic events, adult minds struggle to understand why. This training provides valuable information to address this question, as well as prevention strategies. Will examine critical factors that influence suicidal thinking. Will learn the four critical questions that assess the severity of suicidal behavior.

"Organizational Change: A Practical Guide"

Over the past several years, there has been an explosion of literature about organizational change. Social service agencies have been a part of this evolving trend. What are the common factors? Each organization finds itself in the midst in the midst of a fundamental and radical transformation. Resistance is common among employees. This seminar will provide an understanding of some of the factors that impact change.
