Mark your calendar! This year's Survivors' Art Show will be on October 8th at PAAR. Please join us in honoring the strength and spirit of survivors.
What began as a small group of survivors gathering to express their emotions through art has grown into an eclectic display of hope and strength in the mediums of pottery, paint, pencil and poetry.
With support from Adelaide La Fond of La Fond Gallery as honorary chairperson, the April 2004 event attracted over 175 people for what had been for years a relatively private affair.
“It was such a wonderful night,” said volunteer committee member Kathi Leddy. “Art can be an intense personal expression. It comes from the deepest depths of one’s soul. This isn’t a typical art show. This is survivors saying, ‘I have survived. And I’m okay.’”
Special thanks to everyone who contributed….Michael Hertrich and his great staff for hanging all the artwork, Karen Waggoner for her photography skills and PAAR’s staff who donated delicious desserts. And thanks to our community partners Starbucks and Hepatica of Regent Square for their generous donation of coffee and floral arrangements.
If you are a survivor of sexual assault and have found healing in art, PAAR invites you to participate in our art show. You can submit artwork or poetry. Please submit by September 30, 2005.
