What would it mean to you to help someone through a crisis?
What would it mean to be a compassionate listener, to be a kind voice and a hand to hold?
You could be a hotline worker or a daytime emergency advocate.
Our call forwarding system allows you to take calls from the convenience of your home. Emergency advocates, who accompany recent victims to the hospital or police station, are on-call by pager.
Volunteers who work with victims must complete a 40-hour training program, which includes mastering active listening skills, learning about PAAR services, and understanding the dynamics of sexual violence.
Volunteers work four six-hour shifts on the hotline per month for a year after completing the training. We ask volunteers to cover one weekend or holiday shift per month for continuous service.
For psychology or social work students, ask your internship office if they could give you school credits for completing the training and commiting to a one year rotation on our hotline. You will be able to put "sexual assault counselor" on your resume.
