Pittsburgh Action Against Rape, an equal opportunity employer, has an opening in the following positions:

ADVOCATE

This full-time position is responsible for the accompaniment & support of sexual assault victims, families and significant others through police, medical and legal proceedings as a victim advocate and to provide short-term crisis assistance, information and support services, as well as maintaining required agency documentation reports.  This position will also have a strong outreach and educational component.  Applicant must possess ability to develop leads and contacts within court and legal systems.  Applicant should be outgoing and assertive in her/his ability to develop and maintain new/existing relationships.  An individual who is able to speak Spanish would be a plus.

 
Bachelor’s degree in social work, criminology or related field or equivalent work experience in victim advocacy.


Salary:  Mid to High 20’s – Excellent Benefits


PART-TIME ON CALL EMERGENCY ADVOCATE

This part-time position is part of the Crisis Intervention Team responsible for providing all emergency medical or legal advocacies requested during his/her assigned shifts as well as responding to hotline calls received (approximately one sixth of all non-office hours including weekends and holidays.  The advocate will accompany a client to the emergency room for the forensic rape exam or to a police station to make a report. 

Sexual Assault Counselor Training (40 hours mandated) experience in rape crisis preferred.  Good listening skills, ability to work with diverse populations, knowledge about sexual assault issues. Act 33/34 background clearances will be checked.

This part-time on-call position is not eligible for PAAR paid benefits with the exception of reimbursed mileage, employer’s portion of social security, workmen’s compensation and professional liability insurance.

Salary : $375.00 per month (approximately 14 shifts per month on call)
