Take Action
- Stay together. Go out in groups and stay in public places.
- Agree on a plan for leaving and getting home. Don’t leave without friends.
- Discourage alcohol and drug use. Watch out for friends who are drinking or using drugs.
- If your friend has been drinking, don’t leave them alone. Don’t let them leave with others and discourage sexual activity.
- Don’t let friends drink from open containers or leave drinks unattended. Be knowledgeable about drug facilitated sexual assault.
- Ask your friends about plans and when to plan you to return. Ask for a number to reach them. Find out who they are going out with and what they are doing.
- Encourage them to be honest about sexual limits.
Be Aware
- Share knowledge of the likelihood of possessive behaviors and sexist comments and degrading behaviors leading to violence with friends.
- Alcohol and drug use increases vulnerability; talk about alcohol and drug use with friends.
- Ask your friends who they are involved with and spending time with.
- No matter what decisions someone makes, sexual violence is never the victim’s fault.
