Take Action Everyday

  • Use initials and last name in phone book and on mailbox.
  • Insist entrance to your house or apartment is well lit.
  • Always lock your doors to your house or apartment, even if only taking out the garbage.
  • Ask service workers to show identification.  If not expecting a service call, call and confirm appointment.
  • Walk closer to the curb than buildings or trees.
  • Ask for an escort in parking garages.
  • Lock car doors and drive down well traveled streets.
  • Park in well-lighted areas and lock the car, even if leaving for a few minutes.

Be Aware Everyday
  • Be aware of your surroundings and the behaviors of others.
  • If you feel uncomfortable about a person or situation, leave.
  • Tell someone about your plans.
  • Be honest about what you want and don’t want sexually.  Set limits and don’t worry about being polite or hurting someone’s feelings.
  • If you feel uncomfortable, lie; your friends will be right back, someone is expecting you, you’re sick, everyone saw you together.
  • Walking with confidence makes you appear less vulnerable.
  • Don’t make sexual decisions while using drugs or alcohol, decisions are affected when using drugs or alcohol.
  • Don’t drink from open containers or leave your drink unattended.  Be knowledgeable about drug facilitated sexual assault.
  • No matter what decisions you make, sexual violence is never your fault.
